The California desert is one of my favorite places. The extremes in temperature and landscape really make you aware that nature has it’s own rules and rhythms. For most of the year the land is covered with rocks, sand and an occasional cactus or tumbleweed. But in the spring, after a soaking rain, the landscape bursts forth with color. Lush greens, vibrant orange, yellow and reds seem to suddenly appear carpeting the desert floor with unimaginable color. The lonely highway leads you through the sea of flowers as it winds it’s way across the desert floor. Within days the colors disappear; the only constant element is the highway, which once again stretches across the barren landscape.
